Friends w/ Benefits

I went to a party tonight at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, an art studio-space downtown(ish), where my friend Jesse is currently the artist in residence. He’s throwing a big performance/show called “Total Facts Known” next month, and this party was a benefit (title make sense now? Haha, get it?!) for that. While there were a handful of great performers, I didn’t shoot much during the evening. But! Here are some gems from when I did — they are mostly from Lil’ Miss Hot Mess/Sweetcheeks’ performance at the end of the night.

If you’re in SF next month, “Total Facts Known” runs September 20th, 8-10PM at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory (1519 Mission St. @ 11th). Check the flyer…I’ll be in attendance and you should totally come with!

Sometimes Shit Gets Fierce

On Sunday, I did a most-radical scavenger hunt in celebration of a friend’s birthday. We ran-a-muck through the Mission in search of items to meet our list of clues. It was also during this party that I offered to help Team Chammee with their season finale entry for The Stud’s “Project Runtover” competition, which was to take place the following evening…I went in knowing very little, but that was part of the fun!

Up until last night, I had never been to The Stud (Harrison x 9th), nor had I ever entered a competition of this type. But I figured, what a great way to do something creative (and new) on a Monday night…afterall, what else would I be doing? Sleeping? Cha’h! “Project Runtover” is an elaborate Project Runway–themed gathering in which contestants create teams and spend the hours of 10 to midnight constructing a look. The finale was wedding themed and the past winners all went head-to-head in a no hold barred battle of style. I know what you’re thinking, and hell yeah, shit got fierce. Check it out:

Here’s Team Chammee ready to cut a bitch:

What we’re working with:

Matt aka Dirty Hairless (for the night):

Half way through the competition, the rules changed: teams working on men’s garments had to switch it to female and vice versa. We had about 40% finished of some sort of tuxedo by then, which we flipped into a gown. Sashé!

Chanté!

The other queens got ready too…

Almost there!

Showtime! Did I mention that we had a performance? Matt lip-synched for his life to Etta James’ “Stop the Wedding”.

Makin’ the crowd go wow:

I don’t remember what team this was, but it was fairly wild…

That’s Shady Bear:

And of course, Raya Light. I think this was my favorite picture of the evening:

What a blast. Unfortunately, we only got honorable mention, but the experience…fuck yes!

Well Put Mr. Fish

Just came across this video thanks to FecalFace. I like it because not only doest Mr. Fish talk about his upcoming solo show, “Ghosts of the Barbary Coast”, but he also dives into some interesting historical SF tales and how they’ll tie into his upcoming gig. I think he’s right when he describes the “type” who flock to this city (watch the clip and you’ll know what I’m referring to); I know that upon coming here, I too, felt that way. The show itself opens THIS Thursday, December 4th, at FIFTY24SF. I’m looking forward to it. A lot.

Oh! and speaking of FIFTY24SF, I’ve joined the ranks at Upper Playground’s HQ as an intern. My first meeting is tomorrow! Stoked!
