Strange Days, Indeed

The Holidaze & Home-made Tattoos

The holidays are among us and for the first time in years I’ve jumped onto the holiday-cheer bandwagon. I’m usually not a big Christmas fan, but
for some reason this year was different. I mean, sure I get gifts for my family and friends, and visit a list of people on Christmas day, but that’s usually the extent of it. Not this year, though! I like to think that we went “all out” in our apartment…I mean, we did hang lights in the house, I baked some cookies, and we even got a tree for the living room. That’s a lot for us! I can’t express how happy I get when I walk into the house and smell the fresh pine. That first breath is so wonderful. Oh, and the glee I get when those lights go on in the evening. I’m like…well…like a child on Christmas morning.

And what goes hand-in-hand with Christmas time? Home-made tattoos! Well, not quite, but this did happen a few nights ago at the Michelsen Compound. I’m not too sure what inspired this, but it was fun none-the-less and a reason to party on a Tuesday. Though I passed up on getting inked and will save my skin for some shop work, those who went under the needle seemed to have enjoyed themselves immensely. I hope the work is healing up well, people.

Best wishes to everyone for a great holiday and a safe New Year!

Friday’s Adventure

Last night on a whim, a group of us took an overnight trip to Joshua Tree National Park. We didn’t have much of a plan, we just wanted to go somewhere and see what we could find. All we knew was that it was Friday, it wasn’t expected to rain, the night’s lows would be somewhere in the 30s, and I didn’t have work until 4 PM the following afternoon.

The trip ended up looking like this…

The night was filled with strong winds. The morning was cold. We got up early because we couldn’t handle lying in the tent any longer freezing our asses off. Jon and Chase were building a fire when I poked my head out of our shelter and saw the beautiful desert landscape (row 3, photo 2). I was in awe. Once everyone got up, we took down our camp and got ready to explore the lands. We hiked and hopped around on the massive boulders, then we ran through the Joshua Trees.

It’s been a long 24 hours and my brain is still a little fuzzy. Ahhh…I need rest.
