Happy Holidays from me (and Pinky) to Existential Media and beyond; whatever it is you celebrate, get down (and don’t forget that Mary J. Blige at the holiday party). Woo!
P.S. I’m in So Cal, so lets hang out if you are too.

I’m in Southern California on a surprise-whim for my best friend, Dani’s, birthday. I can now officially say, “Yeah, I’ve popped out of a cake before. Yeah, dressed like Madonna.”

Just came across this trailer for a film by SSION, the really awesome and ever-so-wild queer extravaganzaaa from Kansas City, Missouri. I had the chance to see them a couple years ago when they opened for CSS and have been in search of MORE since. From the looks of this, I think it’s gonna be rad. Right now, according to an interview Cody Critcheloe did with Vice Magazine, it’s only being screened in the Midwest, but is coming to LA in January. I hope it makes a stop in SF while on the West Coast.
And here are some of their music videos, while I’m at it. Love it.
Hey. I got a new camera, which shoots APS (oooh, remember that shit?). While it’s sort of a pain-in-the-ass (actually, I bid and won the wrong auction on eBay), it works well, and it’s a nifty little point-and-shoot that I can take out with me on adventures…ya know, for easy access. Here are a few from my first roll:
(NSFW!)

P.S. my Flickr account is back in action. They restricted me for awhile due to some photos not being labeled correctly. D’oh!
There’s just so much awesome in this video! My favorite is the back-up dancers and the gold linx while in jail. Glad to know I still have a chance of keepin’ my jewelz if I get locked up. Freeze!
This weekend ruled.
After almost a year of searching (off-and-on) for the Washington Packing Co. building, I finally found it! And just in time! Also known as TIE’s Warehouse, in honor of slain graffiti artist TIE ONE, this building once housed a tuna canning factory, until a couple of cases of botulism shut it down in the early 1960’s. After its initial shutdown, another fish company operated business out of the warehouse until the mid-1970’s, as well as various other tenants using the space through the 1980’s. After the 1989 quake, the building was deemed “unsafe” and it was shut down for good. Over the last 20 years, graffiti artists have reclaimed this space filling every piece of blank concrete with colorful pieces. I was surprised to find out that there are even pieces in there that have been running since the 1990’s! Still intact! I’m glad I was able to finally see this place in person; CalTrans has recently announced that they will demolish this building come mid-September, destroying a huge chunk of timeless works. So sad.
Check it out…
When we first arrived, we had trouble locating exactly HOW to get in. Eventually we found a hole in a fence, a trail, a driftwood-bridge, and another hole in the metal grate…and came into this:

We then stumbled into the next portion of the building through another hole in the wall…

The first room was fairly dark (and eerie as fuck), and I worried that the rest of the warehouse would be the same (and I didn’t bring a flashlight — some explorer I am!). But soon enough, after turning a couple corners, the natural light crept in. It was breath-taking. Pieces EVERYWHERE.

Ever wonder what 20 years worth of spray paint cans looked like? I got an idea.

I will never forget the overwhelming surge of emotion I got walking up the stairs and onto the second floor. To leave the darkness and enter a room full of light and color…this photo hardly does it justice:

And onto the rooftop to peep that VOMIT roller! Huge!

I hope I can make it back before it’s gone. There is so much more that needs to be photographed!
Oh, and speaking of destroying pieces of graffiti history — I just read that the SABER LA RIVER piece (which happened to be the biggest piece in the world — it even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records) has now been buffed by the city of Los Angeles. FUCK. I am glad I got to see it one last time, while I was in LA for the day, last month.
I went to a party tonight at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, an art studio-space downtown(ish), where my friend Jesse is currently the artist in residence. He’s throwing a big performance/show called “Total Facts Known” next month, and this party was a benefit (title make sense now? Haha, get it?!) for that. While there were a handful of great performers, I didn’t shoot much during the evening. But! Here are some gems from when I did — they are mostly from Lil’ Miss Hot Mess/Sweetcheeks’ performance at the end of the night.
NSFW…

If you’re in SF next month, “Total Facts Known” runs September 20th, 8-10PM at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory (1519 Mission St. @ 11th). Check the flyer…I’ll be in attendance and you should totally come with!
More SF blippage!
I took a trip up to Twin Peaks this afternoon, just as the fog rolled over the hills. It was (hecka!!!) windy up there, which worked out well and gave me that sweet, pink, blank fog-shot that’s used in the video. On my way home, I stopped by some of my favorite alleys in my neighborhood to capture the sunny streets!
