A little something

Adam Philips remarked

“[Sebald’s] is a longing for truthfulness that redeems nothing. He doesn’t believe the truth will save us, he believes that the truth is the only thing that we have got to work with.“1

Using the reflexive property, this means that all we have got to work with is the truth. That just bent my mind.

Today I feel sincerely aware of this amazing fact. I feel like what I have to work with is beaming admiration. I am in a great mood.

Matthew and I watched Groundhog Day. awesome. It was the perfect culmination to perhaps the greatest 24 hours of my life. Oh, my god, what am I that these stunning people are pulsing and dancing in my life. I am humbled by their faces and your words, you know who you are. Yeah, you.

I’m in such a good mood that I don’t even care that this entry is nauseatingly sentimental. and short. Some might also add weird or annoying. Hey, that’s alright, I agree.

  1. “He doesn’t believe the truth will save us, he believes that the truth is the only thing that we have got to work with.”

This reminded me of something Sam Shepard said in reference to “the enigmatic ending of [his play] Buried Child”: “The ambiguity of the ending avoids the comfort of catharsis, which, Shepard says, ‘gets rid of something, and I’m not looking to get rid of it. I’m not writing plays to vent demons. I want to shake hands with them.’”

I also read this today, which may or may not be related:

“While the rain of your fingertips falls,
whiles the rain of your bones falls,
and your laughter and marrow fall down,
    you come flying.“
    (Pablo Neruda)

    I love you.

  2. What would it be like to feel yourself flying? Sometimes I think that’s what’s happening when we shake hands with our demons. Or moisten our bodies in each others shadows.

    I love you, too.

Thank you (Sometimes that’s all I can say)
