Derrick Jensen and “green revolution”

derrick jensen is a NATURALIST who has written much about demolishing dams and the return to a certain type of nature, a time before language. In a recent Orion magazine article he boldly states that the personal is not necessarily political.

Freya Bardell and Brian Howe of the Los Angeles-based design studio Greenmeme will discuss a variety of their projects. Their cross-disciplinary collective has worked to bridge artistic and scientific disciplines to produce public art, architecture, landscape and ecological design projects, which seek to raise awareness of the cultural and environmental conditions around them. Using science, form, history, story-telling and myth, they have created a series of site-specific works which are playful and educational interpretations of their surroundings. Come join our discussion on River Livers, Matryoshka dolls and how to harness the power of Grandmothers!

“You Say Tomato, I Say Agricultural Disaster”

An interesting article from the New York Times. As we begin to grow more of our own food, we need to reacquaint ourselves with plant pathology and understand that what we grow, and how we grow it, affects everyone else.

Support the new Community Garden Bill

Taqwa Community Garden, Bronx, NYExciting news! Recently several members of the House of Representatives introduced the Community Garden Act of 2009. The bill would make it easier for the USDA to issue grants to help non-profit & community groups establish or maintain community gardens. To read the bill’s text, follow this link.

Please call District 30 Rep. Xavier Bacerra and ask him to support this very important bill. (213) 483‑1425 local, (202) 225‑6235 DC
