Existential Media

History

In 2007, a couple college students set out to explore the Internet as a medium. Existential Media has expanded to become a community of artists, dancers, musicians, photographers, farmers, poets, and designers interested in meta performance and collaboration.

We experiment with creative forms of communication. We discover. We evolve.

Our members are often quiet during the gestation of new ideas and projects. What remains is a platform, a consciousness to create.

Philosophy

Existential Media is a bold name choice. Instead of the angst and despair usually associated with the postwar youth movement, we welcome you to consider its optimism. Existentialism is a philosophy that rejected all absolutes and talked of freedom, authenticity, and difficult choices.

We believe in living our lives artfully. Making every action a performance piece, whether milking a cow, typing some code, riding our bikes, making food, or organizing a playlist. Each artist enters an endless complex of relationships. Sometimes a blog is the best medium, sometimes it’s not. This.

Colophon

Legibility and clear communication for the best user experience: text set in FF Meta. Existential Media runs on WordPress. It is an open source blogging software that we believe in. It works well for us. Along with a handful of plugins, including a version of Sitewide Tags, edited to create the experience that is the Blogs page. We are hosted by Media Temple.
