A Practical St. Patrick’s Day Party Guide
March 17th, 2009 by Alisha
To help you celebrate St. Patty’s day, I bring you “Keg Hat.” This invention is currently seeking patent, but I’m sure you can improvise your own. And, to help soak up that green beer, here’s Grandma Dolaghan’s Irish Soda Bread recipe. That’s right, this is from a bona fide Irish Grandma (mine!). I wish you could hear her read it to you in her cute, muddled accent.
31/4 cups of all purpose flour
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/2 — 2 cups of buttermilk
Sieve dry ingredients, make a well in center. Pour in most of the milk at once — mix.
Knead together with hands. Add more milk if necessary.
Turn onto floured board. Knead slightly, pat into a round.
Cut cross on top. Bake for 15 minutes at 450 degrees then turn down to 400 for 30 minutes.
It’s coming. You know it is.

3/14 @ 1:59:26 is pi(e) time! If you live if portland, you should go to Random Order. Their pie is DELICIOUS. Or you could make some (but it’s a little late for it to cool in time… you may have to wait to celebrate a bit later). Today our country as asked us to take a minute and engage in mathematics while showing our appreciation for that humble ratio-of-a-circle’s-circumference-to-diameter, Pi.
How are you celebrating Pi day?
Happy Johnny Appleseed Day!

Johnny Appleseed was a real person! Apples are so good, you guys. I eat two almost every day while I work. What’s your favorite kind of apple? Do you think Johnny actually wore a pan on his head?
